First issue (oh and I hope I’m not sounding all official 🙂 )

so here’s the thing, there’s this Nigerian thing called gender stereotypes (ok to sound not biased,it’s not only here in Nigeria)… Where I come from, males do stuffs and females are not expected to do them and if they do, ‘onlookers ‘ either go ”woah’ or give them a piece of their mind and we all know what that entails #winks…from a more private outlook,it really isn’t evident  in my home…but I’m not so blind, I see it all around.

girls are supposed to cook and what, boys are supposed not to? It really shouldn’t be a source of contention, but shouldnt a man learn to care for himself by learning such a thing as fending for his stomach, and so if you see a man in the kitchen, you either go ‘woah’ or you give them a piece of your mind and say,in the Nigerian manner ‘brother please excuse me,let me see you in camera, you know what you’re doing is degrading…’ Call me a feminist, fine, but certain things ought to be understood and fully too. If it’s in our culture for boys to go into sciences and girls arts then we sure need a restructuring…my sociologist dad once said here in Africa, equality is a growing phenomenon…maybe he’s right…

what’d you think?…

    1. Kenny yh but what if our supposed ‘culture’ and ‘morals’ does not go along with the value consensus and ideological mainstream? what if its practises are not so right especially as regards gender equality?…Yes we ought to consider them and well too and put the necessary adjustments qiuck before it ‘eats us up’…if our culture and morals are right and just then fine but if not they really have to be considered. Thank you Kenny! 🙂

    1. yes I think equality should be just as free as the air we breathe…being a woman is and should not be inferior, its the society that made it so and we are the society,we can change things…at least its getting better in some part ot the world…

  3. #smiles…I’m a feminist, yaay! …jokes aside, feminism is really great…although equality in itself is a grandiose idea but some suppression and imbalance can surely be redressed. There will always be stereotypes – gender related or not…I mean look at the recent salary gap issue in BBC, and it isn’t domiciled there alone oh.

…culture and morals evolve, you can’t surely say Nigeria, for instance, as remained the same in culture and morals, same can be said for some Arab countries, etc…it’s left to each community to ‘grow’ negatively or positively. Nigeria is grandly absorbing the highly negative part.

There are households in which only the girl does all the house chores and cooking and the boys just do their thing. But like you rightly said, it’s only common sense to be able to take care of yourself, personally if chanced I want to go to a Food Institute to learn some dishes for myself and my woman…I love good and ingeniously-made meals; grand ideas maybe, but the thought still counts, lol. While culture can influence, it’s also a matter of common sense or choice, some men are just damn lazy, content to live in the past, or uncaring. #nufsaid #eachtotheirown

[Feminism]… the notion that feminism is being ‘equal to a man’ can be a stepping stone to downfall, hence a lot of broken marriages, not saying men ain’t to blame too. Feminism isn’t taking their ideology to the roots – children and families…look, you (in the general form) can’t become a disgruntled feminist at 20+ and start ‘raving’ without understanding what ‘feminism’ really stands for and having a concerted ‘plan’ to redress the issue…a ‘society-indoctrinated’ lady ain’t even gonna understand what the ruckus is all about. Start from the kids (nursery and primary schools) – don’t let gender define you and never feel inferior. Y’all don’t do nothing basically except complain on social networks – who you epp?!

…see, that was long – another blog; I really am a feminist. Lol
